Stability AI founder and CEO Emad Mostaque has announced his resignation as head of the AI startup.
Here's What We Know
Mostaque said he is leaving the company to focus on developing decentralised artificial intelligence. According to him, centralised AI will not be able to beat other centralised AI.
Mostak has also left the company's board of directors. Chief Operating Officer Shan Shan Wong and CTO Christian Laforte have been appointed as interim co-CEOs.
In a series of social media posts, Mostak stressed the importance of decentralisation in AI, saying that concentrating power in the hands of a few companies is bad for everyone. He expressed his belief that the community should strive for a more transparent and distributed model of AI governance as the technology grows in importance.
Flashback
Stability AI is known for its popular artificial intelligence-based image generation system Stable Diffusion. The company plans to focus on achieving positive cash flow and expanding its corporate adoption of AI technology.
However, Mostak's departure comes amid Stability AI's financial woes, including failed attempts to raise new investment at a valuation of $4bn. It was previously reported that the startup was spending around $8m per month.
