China presents modern howitzer SH-16
The Chinese state-owned company Norinco has presented a new SH-16 wheeled howitzer aimed at export.
Here's What We Know
In the promotional video, the company showed a 155 mm howitzer that has a fully automated combat compartment, which allows the operator to deploy and fire from the cockpit.
It is also known that the SH-16 is primarily focused on exports to other countries, as the vehicle has a traditional sales index.
The SH-16 is a 32-tonne, three-axle truck with an armoured cab and an unmanned turret mounted on the chassis. It is equipped with a 155 mm gun with a maximum range of 53 km and a remote-controlled loading device. The SH-16 module also has a radar to measure the velocity of the ammunition and an optical station for direct fire.
The howitzer can also be equipped with a remote-controlled machine gun module and smoke mortars for self-defence. And the SH-16 crew consists of only two people, due to the high level of automation.
