A live YouTube broadcast captured the moment a bridge collapsed in Baltimore, MD
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore City collapsed. The cause was a container ship collided with a bridge support, causing the bridge to fall into the waters of the Patapsco River. The entire incident was captured on video during a live broadcast.
According to The Associated Press, several vehicles fell into the water, as confirmed by video footage. According to preliminary reports, up to eight construction workers may have been on the bridge at the time of the collapse, six of whom have not yet been found.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore said at a news conference Tuesday morning that the ship lost power and gave a distress signal, allowing nearby workers to prevent more cars from travelling over the bridge. One person was hospitalised with injuries after the collapse, while another did not require hospitalisation.
