GLAAD report: Hate against transgender people spreads on Meta platforms
GLAAD, an organisation that protects the rights of the LGBT community, has released a new report. It shows that hate speech against transgender people is quite common on Meta platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Threads.
Here's What We Know
According to the report, Meta is unable to enforce its own rules regarding hate speech against transgender people. GLAAD has documented dozens of examples of hate speech, offensive messages, violent language, and promotion of conversion therapy, which is prohibited by Meta's policies.
At the same time, the company has not always responded to violations of its policy, sometimes dismissing GLAAD's complaints as non-compliance or even failing to take appropriate action.
Meta has not yet responded to requests for comment on the GLAAD report. This is not the first time it has been criticised for not effectively combating content that offends the LGBT community. Last year, the supervisory board called on Meta to improve its work in this area.
