Honor has quietly unveiled two new smartphone models in the Chinese market - Honor Play 50 and Honor Play 50m. Despite the fact that both devices have similar specifications and design, their prices differ significantly.

Here's What We Know

Both smartphones feature a 6.56-inch TFT screen with a resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. Inside both models runs a Dimensity 6100+ processor and the operating system is Android 14 based on MagicOS 8.0. The camera at the back has a single 13-megapixel primary sensor and there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera at the front as well. The battery capacity is 5200 mAh c 10W charging power. Also, the devices have the same dimensions of 163.59 x 75.33 x 8.39 mm and weigh around 190 grams.

Where the smartphones differ is in colours and prices. The Play 50 gets a more diverse colour palette such as Star Purple, Black Jade Green and Magic Night Black, while the Play 50m remains more classic with Magic Night Black and Sky Blue.

As for pricing, the Honor Play 50 is priced in a 6/128GB configuration for 1,199 yuan (~$165), while the 8/256GB version is available for 1,399 yuan (~$194). The Honor Play 50m also starts with the 6/128GB model but is priced at 1,499 yuan (~$207), while its 8/256GB counterpart costs 1,899 yuan (~$262).

It's not exactly clear why Honor made such a difference between the prices of the devices, but some Chinese bloggers speculate that it could be due to differences in distribution channels.
