Amazon One: Pay with the palm of your hand now on your smartphone
Amazon yesterday announced the introduction of a new innovative solution - palm reading technology through the Amazon One mobile app. This new feature will allow users to pay for purchases at all Whole Foods stores and other retail locations without having to carry money or credit cards.
Here's What We Know
The Amazon One app uses your smartphone's camera to take a photo of your palm print and set up your account. Once registered, you can use your hand to make payments for purchases and even as a means of identification to enter concerts and sporting events.
The technology is based on generative artificial intelligence that analyses the structure of the veins in the palm and converts the data into a unique numerical vector representation. The palm is recognised by scanners at retail outlets. To start using it, simply add a payment method and upload a photo of your ID to prove your age.
Amazon emphasises security and privacy measures. They state that all uploaded palm images are encrypted and sent to the secure Amazon One domain in the Amazon Web Service cloud. The company also says that the app has additional security measures to detect fakes and it is impossible to save or download a palm photo from the app to your phone.
Amazon One is available for iOS and Android.
