Intel launches new energy-efficient Core Ultra 5 115U chip
Intel recently unveiled a new chip in its Meteor Lake series, the Core Ultra 5 115U. This energy efficiency-focused chip was released without much buzz and was not even listed on the company's SKU list.
What it showed
The Core Ultra 5 115U has a 2+4+2 configuration, meaning two performance cores, four energy efficient cores, and two additional low-power cores. The two performance cores have a maximum turbo frequency of 4.2GHz, while the base frequency is only 1.5GHz. The four power-efficient cores have a maximum turbo frequency of 3.5 GHz and a base frequency of 1 GHz. The two low-power cores have a maximum turbo frequency of 2.1 GHz and a base frequency of just 700 MHz.
The processor also comes with a 10MB cache and a graphics component that supports screens with resolutions up to 7680 x 4320 at 60Hz. Notably, the output resolution of this chip is exactly the same as the Core Ultra 125H.
Unlike the performance-oriented Core Ultra 5 125H, the Core Ultra 115U runs at lower peak frequencies for all cores. It also has a base power consumption of just 15W, which is almost half that of the 125H. The maximum turbo power is also significantly lower at just 57W.
