There will be fewer exclusives: PlayStation's new head has taken office and will implement the company's new business strategy
Today is a big day for Sony Corporation: Hiroki Totoki, President and COO of Sony Group, has taken over as interim head of PlayStation and Sony Interactive Entertainment from 1 April.
Here's What We Know
The new executive, who replaced Jim Ryan (Jim Ryan ), will surely change the business strategy of PlayStation. Hiroki Totoki has long been a proponent of abandoning the concept of exclusive games and insisted on the need to release them on PC and possibly other platforms.
We used to release our own games on our own consoles. That's how we wanted to popularise the PlayStation. That's true, but if your own game can be released on multiple platforms - it will increase your profits significantly, that's what we're going to work on now.
Part of Hiroki Totoki's vision is already being realised as more and more Sony games are released on PC. For example, last week PC users got access to Horizon Forbidden West action game, and Ghost of Tsushima will reach the platform in May. And the ultra-popular co-op shooter Helldivers 2 was released on PC and PS5 at the same time, which will surely be a serious argument for further implementation of Hiroki Totoki's plan.
Totoki plans to hold a comprehensive discussion with the heads of all PlayStation departments in order to select the most worthy candidate for the role of permanent head of the company.
