Residents of Phoenix and surrounding areas (Arizona, USA) can now receive Uber Eats orders delivered by Waymo's unmanned cars. The companies have officially launched the new arm of their long-standing co-operation.

Here's What We Know

When a user places an order in the Uber Eats app, they are offered a delivery option by Waymo's autonomous vehicle. After confirming the order, the customer receives a notification that their food will be picked up by the robot car.

Upon meeting the unmanned vehicle, the customer will need to open the boot using their smartphone and pick up the order. At the same time, the user can opt out of the robotaxi delivery.

Waymo's delivery service is currently available in Phoenix, Chandler, Tempe and Mesa. It serves local establishments as well as chain restaurants like Princess Pita and BoSa Donuts.

Uber says the companies plan to expand the geography and number of partner locations in the future. Jaguar I-PACE electric cars, which Waymo is already testing in Arizona, will be used for deliveries.

The cost of robotaxi delivery will be in line with standard Uber Eats fares, with no additional surcharges.

Uber and Waymo's collaboration on robotaxi rides and deliveries began a year earlier, after Waymo expanded its service area in the Phoenix region.
