Samsung returns to the top of the global market in smartphone sales
Samsung Electronics has once again taken the leading position in the global smartphone market, surpassing Apple. This success is attributed to high sales of the new Galaxy S24 smartphones, powered by artificial intelligence.
Here's What We Know
Samsung lost the top spot to Apple in September last year, but after the Galaxy S24 debuted in January, the market reacted positively. In February, Samsung sold 19.69 million smartphones, capturing 20 per cent market share and ahead of Apple, which sold 17.41 million phones, an 18 per cent market share.
Analysts attribute Samsung's return to the top spot to strong sales in the US and Europe. Samsung also increased its share of the US market, traditionally dominated by Apple products, to 36 per cent from 20 per cent in January. Apple's share of the US market fell from 64 per cent to 48 per cent over the same period. In the European market, Samsung retained its top spot with a 34 per cent share.
Last year, Samsung lost the top spot in the global smartphone market to Apple in terms of shipments for the first time in 13 years. However, thanks to the launch of the S24 in January, the company was able to turn things around.
Incidentally, the Galaxy S24 Ultra's camera was recently recognised as the best camera in the world by US magazine Consumer Reports. The publication gave the Galaxy S24 Ultra's camera 87 points, thus beating the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which scored 86 points.
