Cruise resumes testing robot taxis after pedestrian accident
Cruise, a company specialising in the development of self-driving cars, has announced the resumption of testing of its robot taxi fleet after one of its vehicles was involved in a pedestrian accident. This information became known on 10 April 2024.
Here's What We Know
The incident in San Francisco suspended Cruise's operations in Phoenix, Arizona, and also resulted in a ban on their vehicles in California. Now, after making numerous fixes and software updates, Cruise plans to resume testing, starting with Arizona.
According to a company spokesperson, this decision was made to improve safety systems and collect more detailed data on the road situation. The resumed tests will be conducted under the control of human drivers, without the participation of passengers and automated control systems.
The possibility of resuming commercial operations of self-driving taxis is still uncertain, as Cruise will have to prove its readiness to fully guarantee the safety of passengers and road infrastructure.
