Taylor Swift's music is back on TikTok
After more than ten weeks of absence, Taylor Swift's music is back on TikTok. Her newest songs and "Taylor's Version" have been released online, despite a long-running dispute between the platform and Universal Music Group (UMG).
Here's What We Know
TikTok and Universal Music Group (UMG) clashed over copyright issues when their royalty negotiations failed. This led to a situation known as "split copyright", where any song associated with UMG has to be removed from TikTok. In February, UMG removed the catalogues of its well-known artists from TikTok, including Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and Billie Eilish, which led to the removal of the respective songs from the platform and made it difficult for content creators to promote their music.
Taylor Swift, who has been rewriting her old albums to reclaim the rights to her music, has reclaimed her place on TikTok. Her "Taylor's Version" is now available on the platform, an important aspect in her promotional strategy ahead of the release of her new album, The Tortured Poets Department.
