The US Air Force will receive its first F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet with the latest Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System this summer.

Here's What We Know

Air Force spokesman Major Ellie Stormer said that the first eight F-15Es are being modified to install the latest EPAWSS system. He also said that the development of the system is necessary before a possible war with China.

The advanced electronic warfare system will allow aircraft to detect, interfere with and mislead enemy assets. This system is designed to effectively control and counteract in complex and unpredictable combat conditions.

The process of installing EPAWSS on the F-15E began in the summer of 2022, and in autumn Boeing signed a contract with BAE Systems to produce the second batch of these electronic warfare systems for the new F-15EX aircraft.

The testing and evaluation phase of the system has recently been completed, and the relevant services will provide their conclusions by the end of June this year. At the same time, the US Air Force has stated that the development phase of the EPAWSS system is almost complete and that it wants to sign a contract for full production by the end of 2024.

According to BAE Systems, the AN/ALQ-250 EPAWSS system is designed to protect USAF aircraft "using digital electronic warfare technology to maximise mission effectiveness and survivability in a fiercely competitive environment".
