Space breakthrough: NASA tests Orion capsule ahead of mission to the Moon
NASA has opened a new page in the history of space travel and started testing the Orion capsule for the Artemis II mission.
Here's What We Know
This mission, scheduled for 2025, aims to send four astronauts to the Moon.
The test process began with the capsule being tested in an upgraded vacuum chamber at NASA's Kennedy Space Center for electromagnetic compatibility. Engineers plan to conduct realistic tests that simulate space conditions.
The NASA team expressed optimism about the start of these tests.
The Artemis II mission will be the next step after the successful unmanned flight of Orion as part of the Artemis I mission last year. This mission aims to confirm the capsule's safety for future crewed lunar missions.
Artemis II will set the foundation for the Artemis III mission, which is scheduled for 2026 and will bring the first woman and the first black person to the lunar surface. As part of this mission, astronauts will transfer from the Orion capsule to the SpaceX Starship HLS vehicle to make the first human landing on the moon since the Apollo mission in 1972.
