Huawei Pura 70 series smartphones unveiled: retractable lens on Ultra, variable aperture and satellite connectivity on base models
Huawei has unveiled a new line of smartphones called Pura 70. This is the new name for their famous P series, which now includes four models: the Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro, Pura 70 Pro+ and Pura 70 Ultra.
Here's What We Know
So, the junior Pura 70 model gets a 6.6-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2760 x 1256, protected by second-generation Kunlun glass. The screen has a refresh rate of 1-120Hz and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. The smartphone comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of inbuilt storage. The device has a 4900mAh battery with 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 7.5W reverse wireless charging.
The Pura 70 features a 50-megapixel main camera with f/1.4-F4.0 variable aperture and OIS, a 12-megapixel periscopic telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture. A 13-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture is integrated on the front.
The Pura 70 Pro has already got a 6.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2844 × 1260, a refresh rate of 1-120Hz and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. The screen protection is also second-generation Kunlun glass. The smartphone is equipped with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of inbuilt memory. The novelty got a 5050 mAh battery with 100W wired charging, 80W wireless charging, and 20W reverse wireless charging.
The Pura 70 Pro camera includes a 50-megapixel main sensor with f/1.4-F4.0 aperture and OIS, a 48-megapixel macro telephoto lens with 35x super macro, f/2.1 aperture and 3.5x optical zoom, and a 12.5-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture. On the front, a 13-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture and autofocus is integrated.
As for the Pura 70 Pro+ model, it features a 6.8-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2844 × 1260, 1-120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 2500 nits, which is protected by Kunlun basalt glass. Storage options are 16GB of RAM and 512GB or 1TB of inbuilt storage. Like the Pro model, the battery here is 5050 mAh with 100W wired charging, 80W wireless and 20W reverse wireless charging.

Finally, the top-of-the-line Pura 70 Ultra also, like the Pro+, gets a 6.8-inch OLED screen with 2844 × 1260 resolution, 1-120Hz refresh rate and 2500 nits peak brightness, which is protected by Kunlun basalt glass. Memory options are also 16GB of RAM and 512GB or 1TB of inbuilt storage. The battery has a capacity of 5,200 mAh with 100W wired charging, 80W wireless and 20W reverse wireless. All colour variants of the model will have a vegan leather back panel.
The top-end model gets an inch-long 50-megapixel main sensor with f/1.6-f/4.0 aperture and anti-shake sensor protection. Also included is a 40-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 50-megapixel macro telephoto camera with f/2.1 aperture, OIS and also with 3.5x optical zoom. On the front, it's still the same 13-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture and autofocus.
The Pura 70 Ultra also differs from the younger models in that it has a mechanical, telescopic lens design that is capable of internal expansion and contraction. Huawei claims that it will withstand more than 300,000 cycles and will take sharp images even at speeds of 300 kilometres per hour.
All models also get a new Kirin 9010 processor with a maximum frequency of 2.30GHz, Huawei Histen stereo sound, IP68 protection, laser autofocus, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, an under-screen fingerprint sensor, satellite support and HarmonyOS 4.2 software.
Price & When We Can Expect It
As for pricing, the base Pura 70 starts at 5,499 yuan ($760) and will start selling in China from 22 April. The price of the Pura 70 Pro starts at 6,499 yuan (US$900) and its sales will start from 22 April. The Pura 70 Pro+ starts at a price of 7,999 yuan (US$1,105) and its sales will also start from 22 April. The top-of-the-line Pura 70 Ultra is priced from 9,999 yuan ($1,380) and its sales will already start from 19 April.
Whether the Pura 70 line of smartphones will be sold outside of China is still unknown.
