"I don't care about politics": creative director of No Rest for the Wicked wants to help players buy the game in Russia
On 18 April, the action RPG No Rest for the Wicked was released on Steam early access. It was developed by Moon Studios, which is known for two parts of the Ori platformer. However, it was not without a scandal, and it was started by the studio's CEO.
Here's What We Know
On Steam, a Russian player created a discussion that Moon Studios chose the "wrong publisher", because Private Division does not sell its games in Russia, which is correct, but of course Russians are very upset about it (I wonder why most publishers have not been selling their games in the 404 country for more than 2 years?)
And Thomas Miller replied to the player as follows: "Guys, what the hell? We are all players, I would like everyone to be able to play No Rest for the Wicked... We have people working at Moon from all over the world - Ukrainians, Russians, Israelis... And I'm proud of the fact that such a multicultural group of extremely talented people is working together for a great cause. I don't care about politics and I always have. We are here to make great games that make people happy and that's it. If for some reason you can't buy Wicked, let me know and I'll see what I can do about it."
Of course, Ukrainian players were outraged by this (quite rightly so). Thomas even started blocking some Ukrainian players on Twitter when they tried to explain to him that Thomas' position was, let's say, a bit strange, considering how long Russia has been trying to destroy us.
The main thing is that Private Division will continue to adhere to the policy of not selling games in Russia, and we hope that Thomas will one day realise that it is not worth helping Russians buy games. And it's up to everyone to decide whether to buy No Rest for the Wicked.
