Our colleagues from Channel 24, citing their source in the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine reported how the Air Force shot down a Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bomber.
Here's What We Know
According to the source, the Ukrainian air defence system destroyed the Russian aircraft using the S-200 surface-to-air missile system. By the way, on 23 February, sources in the GUR reported that Ukraine destroyed an A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft at a distance of 256 km from the front line with the help of the same complex.
Flashback
The S-200 is a Soviet long-range anti-aircraft missile system developed in the 1960s. The first versions of the complex had a range of 160 kilometres. It then underwent four modernisations. The complex is designed to defend large areas against bombers, strategic aircraft and other air targets at altitudes from 300 m to 40 km, flying at speeds of up to 4,300 km/h at distances of up to 300 km. The S-200 is capable of operating under intense radio interference.
