Samsung Galaxy S25 could get improved AI features, thanks to Google's Gemini Nano 2
According to recent rumours, Samsung is planning to continue its partnership with Google for its next generation Galaxy S25 smartphones. The new line-up is expected to feature the next version of Google's AI model, the Gemini Nano 2, which has yet to be officially unveiled.
Here's What We Know
At the Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductor Forum, Samsung seems to have officially confirmed the development of Google's second-generation Gemini Nano and provided early details on its plans for the Galaxy S25. Google's Gemini Nano is the AI model that Samsung is using for some of the AI features on the Galaxy S24 line of devices. It was recently rolled out to the 2023 Galaxy flagships via the One UI 6.1 update and minor aspects of Galaxy AI will also be added to certain 2022 and 2021 smartphones.
CEO Cho Cheol-min, who is responsible for System LSI at Samsung Electronics, recently discussed plans for Galaxy S25 smartphones at the Artificial Intelligence Semiconductor forum. These discussions included details about Google's Gemini Nano 2, which Google has yet to officially unveil. The report points to Samsung's plans to collaborate with Google again on the flagship Galaxy S25 series in 2025. Details on how the Gemini Nano 2 will improve on its predecessor are currently undisclosed.
Another area of speculation is the cost of these advanced AI features. In February, there were hints from Samsung's Mobile Experience CEO that future AI features may require a subscription. So the upcoming AI features on the Gemini Nano 2 may not be completely free.
More details on the next generation of Galaxy AI will be revealed as we get closer to the announcement of the new Galaxy S25 lineup.
