Big changes in Embracer Group: the holding was split into three large companies
Tectonic changes in the Swedish holding company Embracer Group continue.
The company has already significantly reduced its staff, cancelled a number of games, including the development of the long-awaited sequel to Deus Ex, closed several studios, including Volition, known for its Saints Row games and Red Faction shooters, and sold Gearbox and Saber Interactive.
The next stage of the large-scale reorganisation will be the split of Embracer Group into three companies.
Here's What We Know
Embracer Group's board of directors has announced that the conglomerate will be split into three large companies.
Thefirst company is Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends. It will become the driving force of Embracer Group's gaming business and will develop big-budget projects, including The Lord of the Rings and Tomb Raider franchises. The group will include PLAION, Freemode, Dark Horse and other companies.
Thesecond company is Asmodee Group. It will focus on the production and distribution of board games. Asmodee Group will include 23 studios and a huge catalogue of intellectual property (over 300 IPs).
Thethird company - Coffee Stain & Friends will produce indie games, AA projects and conditional free-to-play games for PC, consoles and mobile devices.
It will include Coffee Stain, Ghost Ship, Tarsier, Tuxedo Labs, THQ Nordic, Amplifier Game Invest and other studios.
The company will get more than 200 IP, including Deep Rock Galactic, Goat Simulator, Satisfactory, Wreckfest, Teardown, Valheim and others.
Embracer Group founder and CEO Lars Wingefors will remain the owner of all three companies.
This move should help the studios to fulfil their own potential and focus on a narrow area to improve the quality of projects in the long term.
