Germany promised 400 armoured vehicles for Ukraine, but did not deliver any
The contract for the supply of hundreds of BATT UMG armoured vehicles to Ukraine was signed last year, but as of April, not a single unit had been delivered.
Here's What We Know
The German company Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG) received a contract from the government for 400 vehicles worth €315 million, where each vehicle, including spare parts, certification and delivery costs €787,500
According to the original plan, the first batch of armoured vehicles was to be delivered to Ukraine in 2023, but as of April 2024, Ukraine has not received a single unit. According to Bild, FFG has encountered a number of obstacles and delays in the execution of the contract.
In particular, the disruptions may be caused by poorly established logistics and production processes. FFG manufactures the vehicles under licence, performing only the final assembly from US parts. In addition, sources in the German Ministry of Defence noted that the delays may be due to export restrictions imposed by the US on Germany.
Also, certification is required for shipment, which has become another problem as the machines have not passed the necessary tests. All this led to constant postponements of delivery dates.
