European conflict: Apple blocks Spotify update

A new version of the Spotify iOS app in the European Union has caused a conflict between the music service and tech giant Apple.

Here's What We Know

The reason for the conflict lies in Apple's new rules for payment systems in apps that operate in its ecosystem. According to these rules, Spotify still has to pay Apple a 30% commission for each subscription purchased through the app. This was the reason why Spotify refused to accept the updated terms from Apple.

A Spotify spokesperson stressed that Apple's rejection of the new version of the app is another example of ignoring the European Commission's decisions.

Spotify users on iOS in the EU will be forced to go outside the app and purchase a subscription through the website.
