NASA has approved the first manned launch of the Starliner. The new Boeing Starliner spacecraft will be ready to deliver astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) and back.

What is known

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who arrived at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, expressed their excitement about the trip.

The development of the Starliner has had its challenges, including delays and an unsuccessful first test flight without a crew in 2019. NASA has now confirmed the ship's readiness for flight. NASA Associate Administrator Jim Free stressed that crew safety is the number one priority.

The next step before the launch will be a dress rehearsal of the mission. If all goes according to plan, the Starliner with astronauts will be launched on Monday, 6 May.
