Gmail for Android now offers a feature to create email summaries using Gemini AI
The Gmail app for Android will soon get an artificial intelligence-based email summarisation feature. The new feature is being tested now and should be available to all users soon.
Here's What We Know
An Assemble Debug coder from the Android Authority portal was able to activate the new feature in the 2024.04.21.626860299 beta version of the Gmail app. He discovered that the Gemini email summarisation feature is being deployed in the app. He was able to activate the new feature using some flags to get an idea of how email summarisation works in Gmail.
When the option becomes available, users will see a "Summarise this email" button under the subject line of their emails. Clicking on it will generate a quick summary of the email. This should be especially useful for long emails with lots of text and other details. You'll also be able to rate the quality of the summary by clicking on the "like" and "dislike" buttons below the summary text. This is likely to help Google improve the summarisation capabilities in Gemini AI. You'll also get a button to copy the summary to the clipboard.
