Chornobyl Liquidators, a Polish game about the liquidators of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, will be released on Steam on 6 June 2024
On the night of 26 April 1986, two thermal explosions destroyed the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, leading to one of the largest man-made disasters in human history. The tragedy at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant could not but be reflected in video games. The STALKER series of games by the Ukrainian studio GSC is just one example. We can also mention Chornobylite, and this summer we will have another game about Chernobyl.
Here's What We Know
The Polish studios Live Motion and Frozen Way have announced the release date of Chornobyl Liquidators, which will tell about the events that took place in the first hours and days after the explosion at reactor 4. Players will have to take on the role of liquidators, from firefighters to dosimetrists, and cope with the consequences of the tragedy. The developers also promise that not only your fate and the fate of your loved ones, but also the fate of the whole world depends on your decisions.
The official description of Chornobyl Liquidators shows that this is not a fantasy story about exploring the Zone. This is a story about real people who faced a real threat - the Chernobyl disaster.
The authors released a trailer announcing the game's release date. Chornobyl Liquidators will be available on Steam from 6 June 2024.
The trailer shows that the studio did not have the biggest budget, and there are some inaccuracies in it, such as posters "Let's celebrate May 1!", which did not exist at that time. However, I want to believe that the main game - the Chernobyl accident and the fight against its consequences - was really depicted without fantasy, and showed the real horrors of the invisible enemy that people met in the spring of '86.
