No more add-ons: FromSoftware executive confirms Shadow of the Erdtree will be the only DLC for Elden Ring
The Shadow of the Erdtree add-on for Elden Ring will be released next month.
Usually FromSoftware studio releases add-ons for their games, but this time Japanese developers took a different way.
Here's What We Know
Elden Ring's game director and FromSoftware's creative director Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree will be the only DLC for one of the best games of the last decade.
He explained that if the studio had broken Shadow of the Erdtree into several small add-ons, such a concept would have severely damaged the atmosphere and spirit of Elden Ring exploration, as, unlike previous FromSoftware projects, this game features a full-fledged open world.
Instead of splitting the DLC into multiple parts, it would be better to just make one big one. If we were to sell individual add-ons, the freedom to explore and the thrill of adventure would be limited.
As a reminder, the add-ons for Bloodborne or Dark Souls took players to separate and relatively small locations, and for Elden Ring, that concept doesn't work.
Hidetaka Miyazaki also assured that the Shadow of the Erdtree add-on will answer the questions that the Elden Ring storyline left players with, but will not necessarily put an end to the franchise, as FromSoftware does not rule out that it will someday release the second part of the hit action-RPG.
When We Can Expect It
Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on 21 June on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam).
