Large-scale fire in Berlin: the factory of DMA, which produces IRIS-T SLM air defence systems, is on fire
A factory of Diehl Metal Applications (DMA), which manufactures IRIS-T air defence systems, is on fire in Berlin, Germany.
Here's What We Know
According to the Bild publication, a serious fire broke out at the factory for unspecified reasons.
The representative of the fire service of Berlin Adrian Wenzel said that at the moment four floors of the building completely burned, part of the building collapsed, the fire can not be eliminated from the inside.
The most dangerous thing is that chemicals are burning: sulphuric acid and copper cyanide were stored in the plant's warehouses. There is a risk of hydrogen cyanide formation, which will rise into the air with the smoke and cover the city.
Residents of nearby homes are being evacuated, schools, shops and institutions have immediately ended the working day, a thick column of black smoke is rising over parts of Berlin, which could be deadly.
The fire is being fought by 130 firefighters who are doing their best to localise the blaze as soon as possible.
It is not known whether the factory produced components for IRIS-T SLM air defence systems and missiles. We hope that the residents of the town will not be affected and the rate of production of the systems will not be reduced, as these systems are critically needed for Ukraine to defend itself against the missiles of the Russian occupiers.
