According to a source, this year's iPhone 16 line of smartphones will get slight changes to the MagSafe alignment magnets.
Here's What We Know
French case company ShopSystem has published images showing the moulds for the iPhone 16 cases. And they show that the new models have a thinner MagSafe magnet pad design.
The report says that MagSafe accessory makers may have to adapt their products to fit the new system. However, MacRumors believes this is unlikely, as any updated MagSafe system will almost certainly be backwards compatible to support the older type of magnets.
How thinner magnets will affect charging technology is unclear at this point. But rumours suggest that the iPhone 16 could see wireless charging speeds increased from 15W to 20W.
