Japan presents a project to regulate artificial intelligence
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida unveiled an international project to regulate and use generative artificial intelligence.
Here's What We Know
In his speech at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris, Kishida highlighted the potential benefits of generative artificial intelligence for society, but also stressed the need to counter its dark side, such as the spread of disinformation.
When Japan took over the presidency of the Group of Seven (G7) of leading industrialised nations last year, it launched the Hiroshima Process to establish international guidelines and a code of conduct for AI developers.
In the context of the interest in regulating AI, the European Union, the United States, China, and other countries are developing their own rules and oversight, while global organisations such as the United Nations are only making their first attempts to determine how to effectively control the technology.
