Germany has handed over the Germany Air Defence System to Ukraine as part of its latest aid package.

Here's What We Know

The system is the last of a €182 million deal signed in 2022 by the German government and Rheinmetall.

The integrated tracking unit will be used to counter Russian air targets, conduct short-range search, classify and identify aircraft and missiles in the airspace.

The latter package includes ammunition for the air defence system, as well as 10 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, medium-range missiles, a surveillance radar and tanker tractors.

Since 2022, Berlin has provided Kyiv with about €5.2 billion in military aid. Additional assistance from the Germans includes military training for 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers and rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.

Flashback

Skynex is an air defence system developed by Rheinmetall. It is a short-range air defence capability with a modular design that helps to customise its sensors and effectors to meet a variety of mission requirements.
