Pentagon tries to support depleted 47th Mechanised Brigade
Ukraine's 47th Mechanised Brigade has lost a lot of strength over the past six months, so the US is urgently trying to re-equip and support it.
Here's What We Know
A report prepared by NATO instructors says that the 47th Brigade is one of the most capable brigades in Ukraine. It is equipped with American-made military equipment, including M1 Abrams tanks, M2 Bradley fighting vehicles and M-109 howitzers, among others. Comprised entirely of volunteers, this brigade has become an integral part of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
After Ukraine's unsuccessful counter-offensive last summer, the brigade's 2,000 soldiers need a break, as well as replenishment and reinforcement, Forbes noted. The Pentagon intends to help restore resources and quickly improve combat effectiveness.
The Pentagon's plans to support the brigade include the supply of new military equipment, such as new Bradleys.
