Apple unveiled the M4 chip: 50 per cent more performance than the M2 and the most powerful Neural Engine in the company's history
At today's presentation, in addition to the new tablets, Apple unveiled another novelty - a proprietary M4 chip.
Here's What We Know
The chip is created on 3nm technology of the second generation and has up to 10 cores: up to four performance cores and six efficiency cores. It comes in two versions: the 9-core processor is designed for the iPad Pro with 256GB and 512GB of storage, while the 10-core processor is exclusive to the 1TB and 2TB versions.
Apple says the chip delivers up to 50 per cent faster performance than the M2 in the previous iPad Pro, as well as 4 times faster rendering performance. In addition, dynamic caching helps significantly improve performance for demanding professional apps and games.
Apple places a separate emphasis on artificial intelligence capabilities. M4 includes the Neural Engine, which accelerates artificial intelligence workloads. According to the company, this is the most powerful Neural Engine in its history - it can perform 38 trillion operations per second.
The first device to get the M4 processor is the new iPad Pro, which was also unveiled at today's presentation.
