Google Pixel 8a: Pixel 8 design, Tensor G3 processor and 7 years of OS updates for $499

Today, not only Apple, but also Google decided to show off its new products. The company officially unveiled the Pixel 8a - the cheapest smartphone in the Pixel 8 lineup.

Here's What's New About It

The Pixel 8a has an updated design compared to its predecessor, which is more in line with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. More specifically, the square edges have been replaced by rounded edges, although the design of the main camera remains the same. The plastic back panel and aluminium frame have a smooth matte texture, while the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is not afraid of dust and moisture, as evidenced by the IP67 protection. Google claims that this is the most rugged A-series phone so far.

On the front, there is a 6.1-inch OLED display with 2400×1800 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2000 nits of brightness.

On the back, there is a dual main camera, which consists of a 64 MP sensor (f1.89) and a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle lens (f2.2). They can do slow-motion shooting at 240fps, 4K video at 60fps, provide 5x digital zoom and optical image stabilisation on the main wide-angle camera. For selfies, there is a 13 MP front-facing camera.

Inside, there's a Google Tensor G3 processor with Titan M2 security coprocessor, 8GB of LPDDR5x memory, UFS 3.1 storage for 128GB or 256GB of storage, and a 4,492mAh battery, with a single charge enough for more than 24 hours of battery life. There is 18W wired fast charging and support for Qi wireless charging.

Other specs include stereo speakers, a display-integrated fingerprint sensor and NFC.

For owners of the Pixel 8a, like the Pixel 8 flagships, Google guarantees 7 years of operating system and security updates.

The smartphone is priced from $499 and is available in Bay, Aloe, Porcelain and Obsidian colours. You can pre-order it from today and official sales will start on 14 May.
