Oppo is gearing up to introduce a new generation of smartphones from its popular Reno series. The new Reno 12 range is expected to be launched soon. However, even before the official announcement, a fresh leak hints that the new phones will also debut with a brand new chip from MediaTek.

Here's What We Know

At the recently held MediaTek Dimensity Developer Conference (MDDC), the new Dimensity 9300+ SoC was unveiled. However, it seems that a new Dimensity 8000 series chipset is also in the works, which will debut in the Reno 12 series. Well-known whistleblower Digital Chat Station reports that the Reno 12 could get a new Dimensity 8250 chip, which will reportedly feature MediaTek's "Star Speed Engine".

This feature is usually exclusive to the high-end Dimensity 9000 and even Dimensity 8300 series processors. In a nutshell, Star Speed Engine allows for better gaming performance with stable frames for long periods of time and minimised trotting. Thus, the Reno 12 can also deliver a flagship-level mobile gaming experience.

The informant claims that the Dimensity 8250 is configured with a single 3.1GHz Cortex-A78 core, three 3.0GHz Cortex-A78 cores and four 2.0GHz Cortex-A55 cores. These cores will be paired with a Mali-G610 MC6 GPU.

The insider also added that the Reno 12 Pro could be equipped with Dimensity 9200+, which could be marketed as Dimensity 9200+ Star Speed Edition. Therefore, the Reno 12 Pro is expected to launch with the Dimensity 9200+ SoC.

The Oppo Reno 12 series is rumoured to be launched later this month.
