Ukraine to receive RBS 70 NG laser-guided air defence systems from Australia
Ukraine will receive defence support from Australia, which is providing RBS 70 NG air defence systems. The $100 million aid includes the transfer of these systems, developed by Swedish company Saab.
Here's What We Know
As part of this defence assistance package, Ukraine will receive RBS 70 NG short-range air defence systems worth approximately USD 50 million.
The support includes USD 32.5 million for the purchase of drones sponsored by the United Kingdom and Latvia, as well as additional equipment for the military, including helmets, boots, generators and rigid inflatable boats.
The RBS 70 NG system is an upgraded version of the air defence system developed by Saab in 2011. It provides the ability to engage airborne targets such as drones, helicopters and aircraft using laser-guided missiles.
With a maximum range of 8,000 to 9,000 metres and the ability to reach altitudes of up to 5,000 metres, the system features an advanced targeting system and integration with a thermal imaging camera to effectively defend against all possible threats.
