This week, TikTok announced that it will now automatically tag content created by artificial intelligence, even if it was created on other platforms.

Here's What We Know

Content created using TikTok's AI tools has been labelled with an AI tag for over a year. However, the platform will now also automatically tag images and videos created using AI on other platforms. This solution is designed to provide transparency among users.

The technology used by TikTok for this feature is based on content credentials developed by the Coalition for Content Proof of Authenticity (C2PA). These content credentials enable metadata to be added to AI content, making it easier to label.

The initial rollout of this feature on TikTok started recently for images and videos and will soon be expanded to audio content. Content created with the help of AI will be labelled under the username of the TikTok account as "Created by Artificial Intelligence".

In the future, TikTok wants to add content details to each uploaded material so that other social networks and users can use this data to verify whether the material was indeed created by artificial intelligence.
