Apple has struck a deal with Samsung to supply displays for foldable devices
The year 2024 is on the calendar, we've already seen more than one generation of foldable smartphones from Samsung and other manufacturers, and Apple still doesn't have a single device with a flexible display. However, there is already a contract for these very screens.
Here's What We Know
DigiTimes Asia, citing industry experts, reports that Apple has signed an agreement with Samsung Display to supply displays for foldable devices. Earlier it was reported that Apple is also discussing a display deal with LG Display.
True, it is still unclear exactly what kind of device these displays are intended for. According to rumours, the company is preparing its first foldable iPhone, but it should debut only at the end of 2026.
In addition, earlier sources wrote that Apple is working on a laptop and tablet hybrid - a model with a flexible 20.3-inch screen. This could be a new foldable MacBook or an entirely new segment of devices.
In addition, a previously published patent for a foldable device suggests that the folding mechanism could be realised for a wide range of devices including phones, tablets, laptops and other portable devices.
