"Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes" is off to an amazing start to pre-screenings. So far, Wes Ball's film has earned a record-breaking $6.5 million.

Here's What We Know

This not only surpassed the screenings of the previous instalment in the franchise, 'War for the Planet of the Apes', which earned $5 million, but also set a record for the entire series, surpassing both 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes', which previously held the record with $4.25 million.

While "Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes" set a pre-release record for the entire franchise, there is no reason to believe it will set an opening record in its first box office weekend.

Including pre-release receipts, the film is projected to earn between $21 million and $22 million on Friday and will likely finish its debut weekend with a total of between $52 million and $55 million. Consequently, while its opening won't be the most successful in the franchise's history, it will match the averages of its predecessor films. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" started with $54.8 million, while the last instalment, "War," eventually debuted with $56.3 million.

Here's What The Movie Is About

The film's plot is significantly advanced in time, unfolding 300 years after "War for the Planet of the Apes," when apes became the dominant species on Earth. The film has generated a lot of excitement as its plot is the closest thing to the original 1968 film.
