DOOM is coming back?! A reputable journalist has hinted at the imminent announcement of a new instalment in the legendary shooter series.
The last year has been a tough one for Microsoft's gaming division: difficulties with the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, lawsuits with the FTC, squabbles with regulators, the failed release of Redfall, the disappointing release of Starfield, weak Xbox console sales, mass layoffs in most studios and, as the cherry on the cake, the closure of four Bethesda studios, including Tango Gameworks.
Microsoft Gaming needs to urgently correct the situation and restore its reputation and for this purpose several high-profile announcements will be perfect, especially as Xbox Games Showcase is approaching.
Here's What We Know
At the show, which will take place on the 9th of June, we can expect State of Decay 3 and Perfect Dark relaunch, announcement of a new part of Gears and presentation of a major Shattered Space add-on for Starfield.
Of course, these are far from all the surprises that the internal Xbox studios have prepared for their fans, and perhaps one of them was hinted at by a reputable journalist.
Tom Warren, editor-in-chief of The Verge, made it clear through wordplay that a new instalment of the iconic and mega-popular DOOM shooter series could be announced at the Xbox Games Showcase!
There have long been rumours online that id Software Studios is developing a new instalment of Doom. In addition, recall that many confidential documents were made public as part of the FTC case against Microsoft, one of which revealed a reference to the development of a new part of DOOM with the subtitle Year Zero. The title is probably a working title, but there's no reason to believe that the developers won't continue with such a popular franchise.
