The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes grossed $56 million in its first weekend in the US, the second best result in the franchise's history
On 9 May, the film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, directed by Wes Ball, premiered in Ukraine. The film received 83% freshness from critics on RottenTomatoes, and now it's time to calculate the amount earned in cinemas over the first weekend.
Here's What We Know
In the US, the film grossed $56.5 million over the weekend. This is the second best result in the franchise's history in the home market. Only Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) did better, with 72 million.
However, the film grossed $72 million outside the US. So in total, the film managed to gross 129 million over the first weekend.
The film cost 160 million to produce (the last two had a budget of 190 million), so by the end of this week, the film will definitely cover its production costs, and if it keeps up this pace of box office receipts, it will start to make a profit.
