A sequel to Godzilla vs Kong has been confirmed and David Callaham will write the script

It's been over a month since the release of Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire, and it's already been reported that Legendary Studios has approved a sequel to the monster franchise and has already found a writer for the upcoming film.

Here's What We Know

Dave Callaham, the screenwriter of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is moving from the Marvel world to the monster world. He has been brought on board to script the next instalment in Legendary's Godzilla and Kong film series. This decision was made after the box office success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which grossed around $555 million worldwide. This is the biggest gross since 2017's "Kong: Skull Island," which grossed $568 million. The company would like to see Adam Wingard in the director's chair, but as of now, he has not yet agreed to be a part of the film.

"A New Empire," which is still in theatres, could be one of the most profitable (if not the most profitable) of the five films in the series, as it only had a budget of $135 million. In total, the five films in the franchise have grossed $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office.

Callaham is already familiar with Godzilla - he wrote early versions of the script and copyrighted the story for the 2014 Godzilla film that launched the monster-mania Legendary. He is also the creator of the "Unstoppable" action movie franchise and has contributed to films such as the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot and Wonder Woman 1984. Callaham is also credited with writing the screenplay for Marvel's popular 2021 film "Shang-Chi" and co-wrote the screenplay for the animated film "Spider-Man: Across Universes," which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Callaham is currently working on the script for the third and final film in the series, "Spider-Man: Beyond the Universe."
