Tesla Model Y competitor: BYD has unveiled the Sea Lion 07 with a range of up to 610 kilometres and a price starting at $26,000
Chinese car manufacturer BYD has announced a new mid-size electric crossover.
Here's What We Know
The model has been named BYD Sea Lion 07. The novelty has a design that resembles a mixture of the Ocean-X concept and the BYD Seal model. The car is built on a new proprietary platform (e-Platform 3.0 Evo), which boasts improved battery-to-body (CTB) integration.
BYD showed the Sea Lion 07 in three versions: a rear-wheel-drive model with 230kW or 170kW electric motors and an all-wheel-drive model with two electric motors with a total output of 390kW. The single-engine models are equipped with two battery sizes: 71.8 kWh and 80.64 kWh with a range of 550 kilometres and 610 kilometres respectively. The twin-engine model offers a 550 km range with the higher capacity battery. The fastest AWD version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The electric car supports fast charging (from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 25 minutes).
The BYD Sea Lion 07 boasts the DiPilot 100 "God's Eye" driver assistance system. The system integrates 12 ultrasonic radars, five millimetre-wave radars and 11 cameras. The car's interior features a flat-bottomed steering wheel, crystal gear selector, physical buttons for the main controls, a centre console with a 15.6-inch screen, backlighting with 128 colour options, a Dynaudio audio system with 12 speakers and a 220V power supply.
Price & When We Can Expect It
The BYD Sea Lion 07 will be priced from $26,000 in China. Sales of the car will start soon. The novelty will compete with the Tesla Model Y.
