Chinese military analysts are worried that the United States is making too much progress in developing an artificial intelligence fighter jet.

Here's What We Know

This happened against the backdrop of US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall taking part in a flight test of an F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet piloted by artificial intelligence. The tests were successful.

According to a Beijing-based military analyst, who declined to be identified by name to the South China Morning Post, the AI-enabled fighter jet could be a key factor in future air battles. He expressed fears that such technology could give the US a strategic advantage in air combat.

These statements did not leave other Chinese experts indifferent. Fu Qianshao, another military analyst, discusses the benefits of using artificial intelligence in combat operations. An automated system can react faster than aircraft with human pilots, allowing for more efficient fighter jet control in difficult combat conditions.

While progress in the development of AI fighter jets is evident, Fu stressed that the US still faces major challenges. Implementing machine learning to support air combat operations requires additional research and development.
