The U.S. has approved the sale of 300 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II missiles for the F-16 Fighting Falcon to Romania for $340.8 million

The US State Department has authorised the potential sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II air-to-air missiles to Romania.

Here's What We Know

This is stated on the website of the Office of Military Cooperation of the US Department of Defence. It is about 300 missiles, as well as 40 combat and 20 training guidance units, 40 training missiles and other auxiliary equipment. By the way, Romania plans to use the new missiles with F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters.

AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II is the most advanced short-range air-to-air missile in service with the U.S. Army. Development of the Block II version began 15 years ago. The missile has the ability to capture a target after launch, using the aircraft's on-board equipment. It is equipped with a 128×128 photodetector and has improved immunity to heat traps.
