Change of plans: Ubisoft has cancelled development of The Division's conditionally free-to-play shooter Heartland
For several years fans of The Division shooter series have been waiting for the release of the conditionally free new part of the series with the subtitle Heartland.
Ubisoft released several trailers and even offered gamers to take part in testing the action, but it all turned out to be in vain.
Here's What We Know
Ubisoft published a financial report, which few people would have paid attention to, if not for the announcement that the development of The Division Heartland has been cancelled.
The French publisher said that due to the company's increased selectivity in its own investments, it has decided not to continue production of Heartland.
The freed up resources will be directed to "more promising projects", which are considered to be network shooters XDefiant and Rainbow Six.
The cancellation of Heartland will not affect the development of the mobile game The Division Resurgence, its release is still scheduled for 2024.
Insider Tom Henderson supplemented this information with the message that the developers of The Division Heartland repeatedly conducted testing, tried to realise an interesting concept and changed the game a lot over the past few years, but in the end they could not find solutions that will interest the public.
