May 19 marks the 25th anniversary of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, the film that launched the prequel trilogy that tells the story of Anakin Skywalker becoming Darth Vader and how the democratic Galactic Republic became an Empire under Emperor Palpatine.

A quarter of a century ago, audiences saw where the story of Anakin Skywalker and his mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi began. Star Wars fans are still divided about The Hidden Menace: some consider it a great start to the trilogy, while others criticise its plot and the acting of some of the performers.
