Japan is gradually and quietly becoming Ukraine's most important ally

Japan is quietly becoming one of Ukraine's most important partners, as at the beginning of this year, when many countries were struggling to find funds to help, Tokyo allocated more than $7.6 billion to Kyiv.

Here's What We Know

It is not just financial support, but also medicines, bulletproof vests, demining equipment and food rations for displaced families.

According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, since the full-scale invasion, Tokyo has provided $12 billion in aid to Ukraine, making it the sixth largest ally in terms of aid.

Last year, there were also rumours that Japan had provided the Ukrainian military with its Patriot air defence missiles. Tokyo announced its intention to send them to the United States, but this sparked speculation about the possible purpose of these weapons. In the end, sending Japanese munitions may be a good solution for Washington to avoid giving its own stockpiles to the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

It is worth noting that Japan is trying to provide Ukraine with equipment that could be useful in military operations. At the end of last year, 100 tactical vehicles were sent to Kyiv to help in ground operations, as well as a large number of military equipment.
