Elon Musk has launched SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service in Indonesia as the Southeast Asian country seeks to improve internet connectivity in remote areas.

On Sunday, the Starlink launch ceremony took place in Indonesia, where Elon Musk was also present along with the country's government. The services were launched at a public health centre in Bali.

Speaking to the media, Musk said that the Internet could be the key to prosperity and development for remote communities. According to him, it can have a significant impact on people's lives, especially in situations where access to information can literally save lives.

The billionaire also suggested the possibility of additional investments in this project, which is undoubtedly seen as a step towards the future development of information communication technologies in the country.

Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, faces challenges with rural-urban connectivity, with millions of people living in rural areas having limited or no access to Internet services.

Earlier, Minister of Communications and Informatics Budi Ari Setiadi said that Starlink would help Indonesia expand Internet access to regions that are not covered by local ISPs. The minister was trying to allay fears that Starlink would harm local companies.
