A great investment for the future: Nintendo has announced the purchase of Shiver Entertainment, the studio that ported Hogwarts Legacy to Switch, from Embracer Group
The big sale of Embracer Group's assets continues.
Recently, the Swedish holding company announced the sale of Gearbox Software and Saber Interactive, as well as the division of the company into three autonomous divisions.
Today another Embracer decision became known.
Here's What We Know
Nintendo has announced the purchase of Shiver Entertainment, a studio specialising in game porting, from Embracer Group.
Nintendo has bought 100 per cent of Shiver's shares, but will not restrict the studio's work and will allow it to port games not only to its consoles, but also to other platforms.
Shiver Entertainment caught Nintendo's attention thanks to its porting of Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 to Switch. And while there were no difficulties with the game based on the Harry Potter universe, the Switch version of the fighting game met with a harsh reaction from the public. But here the problem is not so much in the work of the studio, but in the technical limitations of the outdated console.
According to Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at investment firm Toyo Securities, quoted by Bloomberg, the purchase of Shiver Entertainment will allow Nintendo to expand the catalogue of games released on its consoles not only today, but also with the release of the next-generation device. The Nintendo Switch 2 is rumoured to be released in the first quarter of 2025.
