XDefiant's optimistic start: an insider has revealed that Ubisoft's new online shooter has attracted 3 million players in just two days
Ubisoft's network shooter XDefiant was long and hard to release: it was repeatedly postponed, the concept of the game was constantly changing, the developers lacked a clear vision of the project, and gamers were sceptical about another attempt to copy Call of Duty.
On the 21st of May the game was finally released and it turned out that it attracted much more attention than "well-wishers" predicted.
Here's What We Know
Authoritative journalist and insider Tom Henderson talked to his sources in Ubisoft and reported that the starting figures of XDefiant are quite impressive.
According to his information, after just 2.5 hours the shooter had 1 million people, and 48 hours later the number of players exceeded 3 million. Apparently, the developers themselves did not expect such an influx of players, because the servers were not designed for such a load, because of which technical problems began.
At the moment the online player count is around 300 thousand people, which allows to compare XDefiant with Apex Legends, but it should be noted that Ubisoft shooter is not available in Steam, otherwise this figure would be much higher.
But it's too early to judge XDefiant's success. It's a free-to-play game and good starting figures only speak about the curiosity of gamers and the fact that they are ready to give the shooter a chance. But whether the game will be able to keep the attention of the audience for a long time and compete with a huge number of popular online shooters - only time will tell.
XDefiant is available for free on PC (Ubisoft Connect), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
