Here's What We Know
Information about the beta test of the new firmware came from user @theordysm on the X platform. This update is expected to be based on Wear OS 5 and could be released in the next few weeks. Last year, Samsung released the One UI 5 Watch beta update in early June 2023. Therefore, the company is expected to release the One UI 6 Watch beta update for the respective Galaxy Watch in the first week of June 2024.
Wear OS 5, on which the One UI 6 Watch will be built, is based on Android 14. The new version of Wear OS improves battery life by optimising sleep processes. According to Google, smart watches with Wear OS 5 offer 20 per cent more battery life during a marathon.
In addition, the Watch Face Format, developed by Samsung, becomes the default format. This means that third-party watch faces can now also contribute to the smartwatch's longer battery life and new features.
In addition to Wear OS 5 features, Samsung can add its own features to the Galaxy Watch via One UI 6 Watch. The One UI 6 Watch update is likely to be available for the Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 6 series in the third quarter of this year. Also, the new Galaxy Watch 7 line of smartwatches is also likely to be announced with the new OS as well.
